Figma vs Vinyasa for UI Prototyping
Compare Figma high-fidelity interaction design with Vinyasa local-first YAML wireframing, reviewed AI edits, and prototype handoff.
Different stages of the design process
Figma is a strong fit for collaborative interface design, reusable design systems, and detailed interactive prototypes. Its prototyping tools include component variants, transitions, variables, and conditional behavior. Vinyasa focuses on the earlier question: which controls, content, and screen structure should exist?
Choose Vinyasa when a browser-local wireframe and readable YAML document fit the task. Choose Figma when shared design libraries, precise visual specification, or realistic interactions are central. Vinyasa does not replace Figma's design-system or team workflows.
Compare the artifacts, not just the canvas
| Concern | Figma | Vinyasa |
|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Visual product design and rich prototyping | Low-fidelity canvas and typed YAML documents |
| Iteration | Visual design and product-specific workflows | Visual edits, explicit YAML apply, reviewed AI proposals |
| Handoff | Design specifications and ecosystem integrations | RVV, SVG/PNG, YAML, and written interaction notes |
| Collaboration | Team-oriented design workflows | Browser-local projects and exported files |
Both can support iteration. Vinyasa's advantage is a constrained document that can be validated and edited by ID without deciding on application code. It does not export a Figma file or production React/Angular components.
A useful two-stage workflow
Sketch a login and account-settings journey in Vinyasa. Review object positions and text using the YAML workspace, then export an image and a brief describing the intended states. Recreate the agreed structure in Figma when the team needs responsive specifications, component libraries, and detailed interactions.
Do not assume SVG import preserves Vinyasa IDs, page links, or grouped element semantics. Keep the .rvv backup for Vinyasa editing and treat visual exports as handoff references. See the multi-screen examples.
